When to visit Natal: weather month by month

Natal has sunshine and warm water all year round. What changes from month to month is the rain, the wind and the high-season crowds.

Seasons on the Rio Grande do Norte coast

  • December to February

    Summer high season

School holidays, New Year's Eve and, in many years, Carnival. Little rain, strong sun and the sea close to 29 °C. It's worth booking tours and transfers early.

  • March to July

The wettest months: June gets 349 mm over 18 rainy days. Even so, there are 6.5 to 8 hours of sunshine a day, and beaches are quieter, except in July, during Brazilian school holidays.

  • July to November

    Strong wind in Gostoso

The wind gets stronger and steadier in São Miguel do Gostoso, a well-known kitesurfing spot: 20 to 22 km/h on average, against 14 km/h in March and April.

  • September to November

The driest months, with less than 55 mm of rain, and the sunniest: about 9.5 hours a day in October and November. Outside the holidays, with fewer crowds.

Tides for the natural pools

The natural pools of Maracajaú and Pipa show up at any low tide, which happens twice a day. At the lowest tides they get shallower and clearer, and the ones that matter for a day trip are those in daylight.

According to the Brazilian Navy tide table for 2026, days with a low tide of 0.2 m or less between 7 am and 3 pm are concentrated from March to October, around the new moon. Each month's count is in the cards above.
