Clear, cold freshwater springs surrounded by preserved woodland — a quiet retreat very different from the coast.

The name Pureza ("purity") was given by the physician José Inácio Fernandes Barros in reference to the purity of the local water. The settlement began in 1806 in the Pau Ferro valley, became a district in 1891 and only separated from Touros in 1963, when it took back its historic name. Today it's a small inland town near the North Coast, with about 9,700 residents.

Two freshwater springs in the preserved nature of inland Rio Grande do Norte, near the North Coast: Olheiro de Pureza, more rustic and public, and Nascente Shuí, a private ecological reserve with a day pass, restaurant and deck. Crystal-clear water, surprisingly cold for the local climate.
